Minibus

In Spring of 2015, Sompting Big Local purchased a minibus (Billy) for use by community groups, clubs and organisations in Sompting. To keep costs down for these groups, organisations outside of Sompting can use the minibus if it is available. Priority is given to Sompting Groups.

3 years later, Billy was replace by a larger minibus (Rory), sitting 16 passengers. Rory has a automatic step, bridging the gap between the first step and the ground, as well as handrail.

We only ask for a contribution to cover running costs of the minibus.

You can follow the adventures of Rory on Facebook

Does the Minibus undergo regular safety checks?

Yes, the minibus has weekly inspections and then further inspections at Rosetts Commerical every 8 weeks which is a legal requirement. The minibus also has an annual MOT.

Can you supply a driver?

We have a small number of drivers we may be able to call on if you cant find a driver. They are all volunteers so it depends on if they are free.

If you would like to become a volunteer driver, please contact us.

Can anyone drive the minibus?

Anyone can driver the minibus providing they are happy to be registered as a volunteer for Sompting Big Local for insurances purposes and fulfil the following criteria:

  • You are aged between 30 and 70 years of age
  • You have D1 category on your licence
  • You have a clean driving licence

We will require to see and take a copy of your driving licence or have access to the DVLA online database.

How can I tell if I have D1 on my licence?
If you passed your driving test before 1st January 1997 you should have D1 on your licence. To check you can either look on the back of your card licence or check online at here
